It has not been a good year for us in terms of reliable large appliances. We replaced our oven in March, right after the big annual party (for which we did NOT have an oven, but made do very nicely with the help of my brother and his wife). That was a comic opera, with a trio of Russian repairmen who took three tries on three different days to TRY to repair the old oven. When they fried the expensive new part for our old oven, we finally decided we'd had enough and replaced it with a new, much nicer stainless steel Miele. I can't remember when the microwave died, but we replaced that with a lovely stainless steel model. Then, in October, the dishwasher simply stopped. Mr. Celia bought a lovely new Miele dishwasher, stainless steel of course. Now the whole kitchen is stainless steel appliances, and I must say the unity is really handsome.
Most recently, our dryer had a problem that started out sounding like a growl and eventually sounded as though I was drying a load of boulders. It got so I didn't want to use it, and we've been drying laundry all over the house. Seriously.
It's a lot of work hanging all that laundry up. Carrying wet laundry around in baskets. Hanging it up in the back yard and remembering to take it down again. That's all I did yesterday - wash laundry and hang it up (well, I did watch some daytime TV, too). At least I could stay in my pajamas while I did it.
And we have been so busy this Fall with work and garage rennovation that it's been hard to schedule a repair date. Finally, Mr. Celia made a date for today. The repairman came early this morning, before I left for work. Mr. Celia called me later at work to report that the dryer's working again.
