Just happened right in front of my eyes. An Amtrak train and a big rig truck collided right outside the office building where I work. I was dropping something off in someone else's office that overlooks the street, heard the collision, and looked up to see the train dragging the truck down the street. "Oh my god, oh my god!," was all I could say.
The truck driver and the train engineers do not appear to be injured and the OFD is on the scene. They are cleaning up a minor fuel spill. No ambulances have sped away, so there appear to be no major injuries. It looks like the container the truck was carrying took the major hit. Lucky, so lucky that truck driver.
The accident happened just after 11a.m. I can still feel the rush of adrenaline, almost an hour later.
Never, never try to cross or turn across train tracks when the warning gates are down and the lights are flashing.
